The Sony Bravia TV is the Sony Smart TV that comes in a variety of models, all of which give users a crystal clear picture among other features. Sony Bravia has recently teamed up with Android to provide Sony Android TV to any users with a newer Bravia television. Users with Amazon Echo or Google Home devices can control their Sony Bravia TV with simple voice commands or their Sony Smart Watch. Because there are several Sony Bravia models to choose from, the specs, features, benefits, and drawbacks of the models will be examined here. The models include the A1E, Z9D, X940E/X930E/X900E, and the X850E/X800E. (Note: Since the X900’s and X800’s are fairly similar to one another, they will be grouped together for simplicity. The lower number within the group indicates smaller dimensions.)
Sony Bravia Specs
The specifications on the Bravia televisions differ depending on the model. All are compatible with 4K HDR X1, but X930E and above have 4K HDR X1 Extreme, which makes the quality more lifelike. The biggest difference is the contrast on the models. The X800’s have a dynamic contrast enhancer (DCE), the X900E has a DCE Pro 5x, and the other X900’s and the Z9D have DCE Pro 10x. The A1E series stands out as it uses OLED to provide crystal clear picture. OLED is likely the future of television quality as it provides the darkest black and has diodes for each pixel. All the models recommend a certain sound bar, mostly dependent on the size of the screen, except the A1E, which uses speakers in the back to project sound through the Sony Bravia TV.
Sony Bravia TV Features
The Sony Bravia TV comes with numerous features that make it stand out from other models. Except for the older models, Sony Android TV is available as a feature. Android is already installed on the Bravia TV so users just need to set up the feature and then can use the voice remote to search the apps and content. The Bravia TV can also be paired with a home voice control system like the Echo or Google Home to help users search through content. Additionally, the TVs come with a very thin frame outside of the screen to maximize the viewing space of the screen.
Sony Bravia Benefits
The Sony Bravia TVs have the benefit of including a wide variety of content on a beautiful screen. The OLED screen on the A1E is fairly unique with only LG offering a similar product. While the picture and sound quality itself is great, users who take advantage of the Android system will be able to watch content and play games on a bigger screen. Users can also download apps through Google Play store such as Netflix or a variety of games. Both Netflix and Playstation have “recommended” users watch content and play games on Bravia TV, meaning some content is specialized for the high quality playback that comes with the TV. Chromecast is also built into newer models, so users do not have to purchase additional equipment.
Sony Bravia TV Drawbacks
Likely the biggest drawback to the Sony Smart TV is the price. Compared to other models, it is at least a few hundred dollars more expensive but is not always the highest rated. For instance the 55” A1E is $2,800 on Amazon and has a four-star rating. A similar TV, the 55” LG C7 OLED, is only $1,800, but has a 4.5 star rating and is a “#1 Best Seller”. It also appears to be slightly more bulky and is often several pounds heavier than similar models. The TV does come with the option of having a wall mount or stand, which may add some bulk. Finally, the older models are not capable of utilizing the features of Android TV or the built-in Chromecast. However Chromecast can be purchased separately.
