Siri, Apple’s well known virtual assistant, seem to always have new tricks up her sleeve. Although Siri is often used to search the web, check the weather, or open apps, she comes with many fun Easter eggs as well. Ask Siri who her father is, what she is wearing, what does the fox say, or ask for a joke. She has plenty of funny responses. Here are some fun responses she gives as well as some Siri hacks that you can use to impress your friends. Fair warning, some of these hacks require some expertise in coding.
Start Your Engines
One developer utilized the open access code SiriProxy in order for the virtual assistant to start his car. By playing with the existing code and adding in his own plugin, he can now say “Siri, start my car”, “Lock my car”, “Pop the trunk” and a few other commands. The information is found online and he notes that he is willing to give more information to people. Unfortunately, the code is a bit outdated and only works with iOS version 7 or earlier. But if you have an earlier iOS version, the SiriProxy code can be used to pair Siri with your car, television, and even a piano via Airplay.
Planes in the Sky
One of the most stunning Siri hacks that most people are unaware of is that Siri can show you what planes are flying above you at any time. Just say “Show me flights overhead” and Siri will list the airline, flight number, altitude, and what direction and angle the plane is flying at. The information is thanks to Wolfram Alpha, which provides lots of additional information for Siri (Wolfram Alpha can help you solve more difficult math equations like integrals and derivative). One caveat is that the information cannot be interacted with, so you would have to ask Siri for more information on a flight if you want to know more.
What is zero divided by zero?
Not quite a hack, but still a funny thing to impress your friends and give them a laugh is asking Siri what zero divided by zero is. Here is her response:
“Imagine that you have zero cookies and you split them evenly among zero friends. How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.”
She also gives you the actual answer, which is that zero divided by zero is indeterminate. Another fun math equation to ask Siri is “what is ten trillion to the tenth power.” She’ll say all the zeros (all 130 of them) which can give a backdrop to beatbox to. (Just careful if you ask what 100 trillion to the hundred power is (that’s 1400 zeros). When you’re listening to her repeat zero over and over again, it sounds like she is saying “ricey” rather than zero. Fun or annoying? Your friends will let you know.
Show me pictures of…
One of the best Siri hacks: Siri can go through your photos and show you specific pictures in your photo album based on your specifications. For instance, if you say “Show me pictures of my dog” Siri will find your pictures and videos that look like a dog and show them to you. You can also say, “Show me my pictures from June 2017” and she’ll select the appropriate photos. She’s not perfect at it though and will sometimes leave pictures out. But if you take thousands of pictures, it’s an easy way to bring up a few that you want to show someone without having to scroll through tons of pictures.
Location, Location
Making sure that Siri knows where you are is important if you want her to complete certain tasks. For instance, she can look up the weather near you, recommend local restaurants, or find movie times near you. If you’re traveling, she can also tell you how much longer your trip will take.
