No, the Amazon Super Bowl ad will not set off your Alexa

Amazon has taken some clever precautions to prevent your Alexa powered devices from going off when you watch their commercial. The AI assistant is programmed to respond to certain commands, so Amazon wanted to take some steps to make sure it doesn’t happen by accident.

Watching Super Bowl commercials is one of the most popular televised activities of the year. Like many other top companies- Amazon will be debuting a Super Bowl ad. Their ad is estimated to show in millions of homes all across the country -many of which that have Amazon echo devices.

Lucky, no matter how many times Jeff Bezos askes “Alexa’s lost her voice?”, no one has to worry that Alexa will be accidentally triggered an interrupt their Super Bowl Parties.

Although Amazon has not personally commented on how they do this, a Reddit user, aspyhackr has a theory that seems to check out. Alexa commercials are muted in the 3,000Hz to 6,000Hz audio range. This small adjustment is not only outside of human hearing, but it also is a silent indicator that your Alexa should not activate.

A clever fix allows millions of homes to enjoy their awesome new commercial without bothering their Amazon devices.
