With smart speakers becoming the newest technological craze, it is no surprise that Google decided to follow suit and release their own smart speaker. Their answer to the Amazon Echo and other popular smart speakers was Google Home.
The highly anticipated device met all of critics expectations thus far and has been a highly recommended addition to any tech savvy household. Complete with amazing specs and help from your very own Google assistant software, there is more than enough reason to get your hands on a Google Home now!
The set up may seem a little overwhelming at first, but it is totally manageable -even to those who are not necessarily tech savvy. You are just a few, short steps away from upgrading your home!
- Once you have completely taken everything out of the packaging you can now plug in the power adapter into the bottom of your Google Home. Plug it into the wall and give it a few minutes to start up.
- Use your smartphone to download the Google Home app. The app is available for free from the app store. Open it on your phone and tap on devices, the icon in the upper, left corner of your screen.
- Click Set Up to prompt the application to search for your Google Home.
- Once it has recognized the device, click continue to be directed to set up. Using this app will temporarily connect your phone to your Google Home’s hostpot.
- Once connected, you will be prompted to test the connection. Click “play test sound.” You want to make sure that your Google Home is connected -once it is connected it will play a sound.
Once you have heard the sound, click “I head it” to continue onto the rest of the configuration.
- Now you will name your Google Home. You have the option to either select a predetermined room of the house to name your speaker after or you can come up with one yourself.
Please note that this name will be visible so make sure it is something that is appropriate and easy to identify. If you want to select one of the preselected options, click the drop-down menu.
If you would like to create one of your own, please select “other” and type it in yourself. Click continue whenever you are ready.
- It is at this point where you can set up the wi-fi. The network that is connected to you phone will be added as the default. If you would like to connect your Google Home to another wireless network, you can manually enter one. Once it successfully connects, you will be prompted to continue.
- Once that is done you will be asked to log into your google account. When you log in, Google Assistant will request access to your personal information within your Google account. This is necessary for the personal assistant software and you will be asked to continue.
- You must also set a location for Google home to base all of its location specific data (such as traffic and weather information. You can always change this information at a later time.
- You can sign up for email updates and connect to your music playlist by following the instructions on the screen on the options menu.
- Once your preferences have been made and all updates have been completed, your Google Home device is set up and almost ready to use.

- After the tutorial, follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate your voice to the voice commands. When this is done, you Google Home is ready to use and enjoy!
