Two of the most popular home systems available today, Google Home and Sonos speakers, have been pretty much incompatible up until recently. While Sonos is making waves with their amazing smart speakers, it’s hard to consider them “smart” if you can’t use them with your Google assistant.
Although some of the newer Sonos speakers are compatible with Amazon Alexa, the feedback has not been completely positive. But now, Sonos and Google Home can become compatible through an app called Yonomi to solve the problem seamlessly.
What’s Yonomi? In essence, it is a smart hub that manages your devices and does the work to sync them so you don’t have to. Once you download the app and set up your account, it will scan your home network for connected devices and anything compatible and link them.
So when you have your Sonos speakers and your Google Home connected to your network, it syncs them, too. Problem solved!
How To Connect Google Home To Sonos
Google Home and Sonos have been dangling their integration package for a while, increasing anticipation and excitement in a smart play for advertising but making many users impatient. Now that Yonomi is compatible with both, users have the access but need to know how to use it.
Yonomi is offered through both iOS and Android versions. When you are ready to set up Google Home and Sonos to work together, you can do so in just a few easy steps!
1. Download Yonomi and set up your account. Do this when you are at home so your Wi-Fi network can scan your devices, including the cloud. These become “Things in the Yonomi World.”
2. Review your Things and link your accounts. Some of your Things will connect automatically, but others will tell you that you need to take an extra step or two to link them.
3. Set up your Routines. Your Routines simply allow you to choose which devices are combined together and determine their behaviors. These would be things like preset alarms, times when your smart lights get turned on or off, and when to turn your music on. If you have a smart device, you can add it to your routine.
4. Create your Routine with your Sonos speakers. Whatever you would normally use your speakers for can be turned into a Routine. It’s not necessary, but if you use them regularly, this can be helpful.
5. Combine your Yonomi app with your Google Home assistant and Sonos. Running your Routines is great, but opening the app to play them in between set times can be a pain. Instead, your Google assistant can do this for you if you set it up correctly.
To get this running, go into Google Home and find Yonomi as a “device.” Now you can get your Google assistant to do the work for you with your instructions. Simply say, “Google, activate…” and pick a Routine that uses your speakers. You are now connected!
Google Home and Sonos Integrated
Through Yonomi, you can use Google Home to access your Sonos speakers and any other smart device in your house. Sonos doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and Yonomi is becoming a household name, too, so we can only expect even better things in the future.
For now, though, we are happy to be able to finally use our Google Home and Sonos together.
