As we bring our homes into the future, it is becoming increasingly popular to go get smart devices that cover every element of your house. Cameras, smoke alarms, and thermostats are some of the more popular items to transform into smart devices for your home. Among the most popular suppliers of these devices are Nest, Apple HomeKit, and Amazon products.
Unfortunately, while these are all amazing products, it is not too common that they can all be compatible and easily organized along the same management system. So, what’s the best voice activated home assistant?
With the competition for innovation between Amazon and Apple (most recently with the Apple Homepod answering to the Amazon Echo), Amazon smart devices are hardly ever usable within the Apple HomeKit application. The bigger mystery is whether Nest would allow for such a compatibility.
Nest Apple HomeKit
If Nest were compatible with Apple HomeKit, it would certainly unlock a world of difference. Some could even argue that Nest may have higher quality products than those offered by Apple. Nest has some better options made directly by them that are arguably better than some of the products the HomeKit offers.
Apple more than make up for it with the easy interface of the Home App. Apple is known for making things as simple as possible and the Home App is no different. It makes it easy for even the least tech savvy people to follow the simple instructions and set up devices unassisted.
Combined, Nest and Apple HomeKit would be amazing for any smart house owner. Unfortunately, the Nest products do not currently work with the Apple HomeKit software. Apple has been known for being a little bit more exclusive with the brand of products that are allowed to have easy compatibility.

It also goes without saying that Apple is known for enjoying the financial benefits of being more restrictive with their compatible brands. Although this is a great strategy for encouraging users to solely purchase from their private line of products, it can leave behind a lot of great products. However, them joining together with third-party brands and Apple are pretty common—perhaps we can expect a Nest-Apple HomeKit partnership?
Currently speaking, the nest products that are currently available on Nest’s website are not compatible with Apple HomeKit. Although you could go about having both of the products in your household, they would not all be controlled by the same application which can be a little inconvenient.
However, this does not mean that there is not the chance of compatibility in the future. In Fact, Nest has a whole line of products that are not to be expected until next year. Maybe we can hope for a little touch of Apple in these future products.
Certainly, with the Nest’s great reviews and rising popularity, it may at least pique Apple’s interests to try it out. Although the chances of Apple reaching out to Nest are a little on the slimmer side considering the level of establishment they seem to seek with their sponsored brands, we can still have some hope.
Until then, Nest products will have to be controlled by their own separate app. The App itself is comparable to the HomeKit app, however, many argue that the Apple Home app is easier to use. Who knows though. With a few more tweaks and updates, the Nest may find itself on top of this competition at one point. However, it is going to need to step up its fame if it hopes to compete with Apple’s rise.
With the release of the HomePod, Apple is going to have one advantage over Nest that does not seem like it is going to be addressed anytime soon. While it may not be so inconvenient to switch between the HomeKit and Nest apps on your iPhone, the Nest may lose a lot of points when it can’t sync up with the HomePod Smart Speaker.
Only time will tell what will happen with the Nest-Apple HomeKit compatibility. Hopefully, a nice partnership is in the future.
