All The Hidden Features Of Alexa App For Android

The Alexa App for Android is an irreplaceable feature for utilizing an Amazon Echo device. The Echo device can help users shop for products on Amazon.com, call friends, and check the weather among many other things. To physically check a grocery list, change settings, and check command history, the Alexa app will need to be downloaded. Many features of the app are straightforward to find and use, however, there are some hidden features that can greatly help Echo owners make the most out of their app and Echo device.

Download Alexa App For Android

Downloading the Alexa app for Android devices is very easy to do, and the Amazon website gives explicit instructions to help users navigate the setup. First, go to the app store on the device. Then search for Alexa app or Amazon Alexa app. Once it pops up, click to begin the download. Once the app has finished downloading, open it by clicking on it. The app will require you to log in using your Amazon account. Make sure this is the same account you use for all your Amazon doings, so your Echo device and Alexa app can help purchase items through Amazon. Once logged in, the app will guide users through the process of setting up the app to sync with an Echo device. Instructions for setting up the Echo can be found here.

After the Alexa App for Android has been downloaded, Android and Echo owners will need to know all the helpful features of the app in order to fully utilize the product. One basic yet helpful feature is being able to physically look at and change lists, including grocery lists and to-do lists. To do this, first, open the app and go to the menu. Then select lists, and choose the list you wish to modify. You can view the list, add to it, or remove items all through the app.

Hidden Features Of Alexa App For Android

Although the Alexa app is easy to use, there are some hidden menus that may make navigation somewhat difficult. These hidden features are just as interesting and useful as the basic features of the app, yet are underutilized by many Echo owners.

A major set of features will help to improve the security of the Echo device. To improve purchasing security so not just anyone can buy something using your Echo device, go to settings in the Alexa app for Android. Next, choose voice purchasing, and click “purchase by voice” to off. A passcode can also be required prior to purchases. In the same menu, toggle on “voice code” and enter a 4-digit passcode. Another security feature is restricting drop-in, which allows anyone with an Echo device to drop in on your device, sort of like an intercom system. If you do not want someone in the bedroom dropping in on a conversation in the living room, first go to settings. Then scroll down to drop-in, and choose whether this feature should be on, ‘only my household’, or off. If a user only wants certain contacts to be allowed to drop in, go to the conversations tab in the app. Then, individuals who have an Echo device can be chosen to be allowed to drop in or not.

For Echo owners who want some variety from their device, they can go to settings and change the sounds Alexa will make when interacting with users. For users with multiple devices, particular Echo devices can be assigned different names and/or different wake words in order to reduce confusion when addressing Alexa. Music can also be synchronized across multiple Echo devices. Simply go to settings, select smart home, and then create a group. Different devices can be added to the group, which can all play music at the same time if desired.
